A. Disciple Making Ministry
1) The Preaching of the Gospel
Primarily, we try to preach the gospel to non-believing college students and teenagers. We prepare Bible classes for freshmen at the beginning of new semesters. In addition, we preach the gospel to students year round and invite them to Bible study.
2) One-to-One Bible Study
U.B.F. Bible study is mainly carried out between a Bible teacher and a student at a mutually convenient place and time, using prepared Bible study texts, as well as the Bible and question sheets which provide the basis for discussion. Under the strong spiritual bond formed through this person-to-person study, the student is encouraged to meditate on the Word of God and further apply it to his daily life and his own personal problems. The Bible question sheets are made by a Bible Study Material Research Group so that leaders as well as beginners can study the Bible systematically on an inductive basis. After each Bible study, students are encouraged to write their own testimonies about what they have learned. By writing a testimony, they can implant the Word of God in their hearts and obey the Word of God and grow to sacrifice themselves for the Lord. In addition, they share their own testimonies in a group and share Christian fellowship.
3) Fellowships and Small Group Bible Studies.
Group Bible studies for leaders are also conducted through discussions in an inductive way. Each group usually comprises between 7 to 8 members. These group Bible studies are part of the weekly fellowship meetings that each U.B.F. member attends. In addition to the group Bible studies, members in the group meet together and read short essays based on their Bible study during the week, and they also pray for missionaries as well as campus evangelism. Through such meetings, leaders are encouraged to make practical application of the Scriptures to their daily lives. They are also encouraged to learn Christian service and the life of devotion in practical ways. They eventually realize the importance of World Mission and receive proper training for missionary work.
4) Campus Prayer Meeting
In each campus, U.B.F. members have a daily prayer meeting for campus evangelism, world mission, and for the nation.
5) Morning Prayer Meeting and Quiet Time
Every chapter has prayer meetings in the early morning using the Daily Bread booklet published by the U.B.F. Press. Members meditate on the Word of God and write their personal testimonies, based on the Bible passage. Through this process, they can find spiritual direction and gain spiritual power for each day.
6) Bible Academies
Bible Academies are prepared each season except for summer. The Bible passages for the Academies are selected according to the campus situation and the social problems prevalent at the time, and the messages are delivered by student leaders or graduates. This also provides a good opportunity for messengers to grow spiritually.
7) Summer Bible Conferences
Each U.B.F. chapter holds its own annual Summer Bible Conference for about 5 days. Through intensive Bible studies, sermons, symposiums and much prayer, the attendants experience spiritual growth. Various dances, plays and musical performances are also helpful for the non-Christian to accept Jesus Christ and be born again.
8) U.B.F. Leadership Training
In addition to the Summer Bible Conference, there are short-term Bible conferences such as weekend conferences in the spring and fall. New Year or year-end conferences, and Conferences for U.B.F. staff and members in charge of World Missions, etc.
9) Summer and Winter Schools
U.B.F. opens summer and winter schools during every vacation period and teaches students English, computer skills and other major subjects. U.B.F. also invites scholars and experts to lecture frequently to fill the increasing need for intellectual maturity among its members.
B. Missionary Training
1) Training for Missionary Applicants
Students who have accepted Jesus Christ and studied the Bible faithfully throughout their college years establish their value systems according to the teachings of the Scriptures. Moreover, those students even hope to become witnesses in other nations. After graduation, many of them decide to be missionaries. If these decisions are solidly based on the guidance of the Holy Spirit as well as sound faith, U.B.F. begins to train them for over 2 years that they may become good evangelists. The trainees undergo preliminary training under the guidance of U.B.F. staff shepherds. In this phase, they are expected to study the Bible, learn the rudiments of the language of their future mission field and complete their professional training. When the preliminary training is over, trainees undergo the main phase of training which is provided at the Headquarters in Seoul.
2) Missionary Sending
Well-trained missionary applicants are sent overseas as soon as possible. In the mission field, they do their utmost to preach the gospel to the native students to make them disciples of Jesus. As tent-maker missionaries, all U.B.F. evangelists hold civilian jobs while engaging in missionary activities, following the Biblical example of the Apostle Paul. Such a tent-making mission has advantages as follows:
First, while they are students or workers, many opportunities arise naturally to make friends with the natives, to witness to them about the gospel, and to invite them to Bible study.
Second, even in anti-Christian countries, where it is difficult to receive visas as clergymen, our tent-maker missionaries have little problem entering such countries since they go to work as students, engineers or laborers.
Third, U.B.F. missionaries are able to spread the gospel without the need for huge fund-raising efforts.
Fourth, the tent making missionaries, since they are inspired by the Holy Spirit, are full of pioneering spirit and are armed with the pure gospel.
Fifth, anyone who accepts Jesus Christ as Savior and the world mission command can be sent out as evangelists. As a result, U.B.F. has abundant human resources for world mission work.
Sixth, acquiring degrees at overseas universities also makes it convenient for missionaries to preach the gospel. As professors or as members of research institutes, they can preach the gospel even more effectively. To date, there are hundreds of U.B.F. missionaries of this kind in the mission field.
3) Retraining
When it is necessary, missionaries are sent back to Korea for retraining. Through this training they are spiritually recharged and return to their mission fields.
4) World Mission Reports
Missionaries and the native students whom they raised as disciples of Jesus are invited to report about their ministry. During these reports, precious life testimonies are shared by native college students. In addition to the periodic reports, visiting missionaries and staff in Korea, who are returning from abroad, inform members of overseas ministries so that they can be aware of prayer topics and be inspired by God' s life-giving work around the world.
5) Visiting the Mission Field
Staff members in Korea visit the mission field from time to time and encourage missionaries through the Word of God and prayer.
